Indo-German Environment Forum

On 13 February, the Third Indo-German Environment Forum under the Chairmanship of Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze and her Indian counterpart Harsh Vardhan took place in New Delhi. The forum entitled "Cleaner Air, Greener Economy: Capacities and Technologies for Implementing NDCs and SDGs" focussed on air pollution control, waste management, circular economy and sustainable finance.

The forum has been organised by the German and the Indian environment ministries together with the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. It provides a platform for the bilateral exchange on environmental challenges and international climate policy.

An important component of the forum were industry-specific Business-to-Business talks which had the goal to promote private sector cooperation for environmentally friendly and low-carbon growth. Therefore, Federal Minister Svenja Schulze was accompanied by a 17-member business delegation from Germany.

However, another objective of the forum was to enable discussions between attendees coming from different organisations and institutions. During the course of several panel discussions, participants coming from ministries, companies, research institutes, and non-governmental organisations identified challenges, solutions and framework regulations conducive for implementing the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Climate Agreement.
