In his opening remarks, Co-Chair Mr. Philipp Knill mentioned the successful results of the 5th Indo-German Inter-Governmental Consultations between P.M. Modi and Merkel with the German delegation on 1st November 2019 held in Delhi.

The discussions in the Subgroup meeting covered:

  1. Finance and funding in relation to GEC-I and GEC-II, its possibilities and clarities.
  2. The GEC-I installation, the status of projects, implementation status, ongoing work in managing the variability & RE integration and storage technologies.
  3. Knowledge dissemination of best practice cases in RE grid integration through study tours involving various public and private stakeholders.

Mr. Behera appreciated that the discussions were beyond the financial content and included technical issues and challenges in GEC implementation and wished to keep it that way in the future. As of the moment, only 27 % of RE including hydro are in the grid. That needs to increase because RE is the future.

Mr. Knill found the meeting very helpful and financial, technical and regulatory stakeholders were present. He thanked the participants for the discussions on the technical and political aspects of RE and GEC of the two diverse countries India and Germany.
