9th Energy Day at Intersolar India / The smarter E India 2022

The smarter E India expo is India’s innovation hub for the new energy world and brings together three parallel energy exhibitions under one roof: the renowned Intersolar India, ees India and Power2Drive India. The three-day exhibition and conference were held from 7 to 9 December 2022 at the Helipad Exhibition Centre, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and attracted more than 200 exhibitors and 11,000 visitors. The fair presented cross-industry energy solutions and reflected the interactions between the solar, energy storage and e-mobility sectors.

The Indo-German Energy Forum (IGEF) in collaboration with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) organised a German Pavilion at the Intersolar India exhibition. The German companies participating in the German Pavilion had the opportunity to showcase their products and services and establish valuable new connections at one of the world's largest renewable energy markets.

This year’s Intersolar India exposition was also attended by Dr. Nicole Glanemann, Deputy Head at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). The German Government official gave an opening speech at the inaugural session, highlighting the potential that international collaboration in the energy sector bears. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and addressed the “Strategies for Low-carbon Transition: Driving India to Net-Zero”.

Against the background of Germany’s National Hydrogen Strategy, Dr. Glanemann talked about the role of green hydrogen in Germany at a session dedicated to the Green Hydrogen Economy - Definition and Policy Contours. She highlighted Germany’s ambitious renewable energy targets and outlined the nation’s targeted instruments to support green hydrogen projects worldwide. In this session, several high-ranking speakers discussed the various origins of hydrogen and how India’s Green Hydrogen Mission could catalyse India’s energy transition.

Dr. Martin Lux, Designated Head of Energy, KfW Development Bank was a speaker in a panel discussion on Policy and Market Outlook - Sprinting to the 100GW Finish Line. In this session, the focus was on how central and state level policies can accelerate the growth of solar installations in India given that the national target of 100 GW by 2022 was missed by almost half.
